Hiring for Waste Water and Drinking Water Operator
This will be a dual position where you will work for both the Water Department and Sewer Department. Preference will be given to Indiana Certified Drinking Water, Distribution, and Waste Water Class II licensed people. Pay will start at $16.12 per hour and depending on experience may start at $18.24 per hour. Benefits include Paid Vacation, PERF, Health Insurance, Paid Sick Time and Paid Lunch hour. Must have a Valid Indiana Drivers License with CDL Preferred.

Job Descriptions
Water Technician
Effective Date: 06/20/2024
Summary: The Water Technician shall respond to work in a timely fashion and get direction form the Utility Superintendent. They shall operate, maintain, and repair a variety of equipment, including valves, lines, pumps, pressure regulators, hydrants, and other distribution equipment. They shall also repair water main breaks, install new water mains, install new water meter services, operate backhoe, trencher, dump truck, utility truck, and other equipment. The water technician reports to the distribution superintendent or general manager.
Essential Duties: Be on call as needed for water main break emergency repairs.
Changes out meters and reads meters when required. Operate pumps, valves,
hydrants, and other distribution equipment. Routinely flush lines and operate system
valves. Operate the backhoe, trencher, dump truck and utility truck. Locate water
mains in a timely fashion. Talk to property owners prior to starting construction on their property. Work to reduce and maintain water losses to an acceptable minimum.
Provide for good public relations in dealing with property owners and water utility
customers. Observe proper OSHA regulations when working in trenches, confined
spaces, or at heights requiring fall protection equipment. Wear company provided
personal protective equipment including hard hat, eye protection, self contained
breathing apparatus, safety harnesses, and traffic safety vests. Erect proper traffic
control signage, cones, and provide traffic control flagmen when required on site. Works with office personnel when collecting delinquent accounts, placing a variety of customer door hanger notifications, and may be called upon to disconnect delinquent accounts. Responds regularly and promptly to work. Performs other related work as required. The water technician shall also take care of other special problems that may be found from time to time and other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Special Requirements: Have at least a high school education, or GED equivalent. Have a valid Indiana drivers license. Have valid IDEM DSM/WT3 license, or be able to attain it after employment.
Waste Water Technician
Class II Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

The Class II Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for a wastewater treatment plant that utilizes special or complex equipment or features of design requiring specialized skills to operate. This person is responsible to assure continuous production of effluent that meets or exceeds the water quality requirements of the receiving stream and the national pollutant discharge elimination system (NPDES) permit limitations.
The Class II Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator shall assign staff members, if available, to ensure that pumps, conveyors, blowers, tanks, vacuum equipment and other waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly. Make certain that monitoring of equipment for potential failures and make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Assigns the laboratory technician, if available, such tasks as collection of water samples for chemical analysis and to perform such analysis.
Responsible for compliance of all government regulations and compliance documents for the treatment plant and reclaimed sludge of this organization.
Responsibilities also include analyzing maintenance trends to predict future maintenance tasks and expenses.
Trains employees, identifies, analyzes, and repairs system failures, orders, replaces parts as needed, and makes certain that employees under his direction meets or exceeds the continuing education requirements. Determines and recommends to the superintendent which products or services best fit the District's needs for the treatment plant facility.
Analyzes the budget records pertaining to the treatment plant and reclaimed sludge process to determine financial resources required to implement programs and makes recommendations for budget allocations to ensure conformance to budgetary limits. Also responsible for reviewing operating budgets for the treatment plant and reclaimed sludge process periodically in order to analyze trends affecting budget needs.
This person shall assists the superintendent with the implementation and maintaining of company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations to the superintendent. Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Should possess a good knowledge of the National Incident Management System. Records and maintains control of all inventory items purchased and utilized for the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant and reclaimed sludge process. Ensures that compliance with established internal control procedures is achieved. Researches, interviews, and negotiates with suppliers to obtain prices and specifications. The treatment plant operator should be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This person should have the ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
